Integrated Safety and Environmental Management (ISEM )
UCR uses the Integrated Safety and Environmental Management (ISEM) system to bring safety, health, and sustainability into work practices at all levels. Our core ISEM principles demonstrate our expectations for all faculty, staff, and students. ISEM applies a 5-step process to all work:
- Define scope: What do I want to do?
- Analyze hazards: What are the risks of doing it?
- Develop controls: How can I control those risks?
- Perform work: Do it (controlling for risks)
- Evaluate Performance: How can I do better next time?
ISEM was developed by the systemwide Environment, Health, & Safety Leadership Council in an effort to implement the UC systemwide policy on management of health, safety, and the environment. The policy has received personal commitment from the President of the University of California. If you have questions about ISEM, please contact Anita Jensen (951) 827-2415.
