UCR Emergency Notification System
To enhance UCR's emergency preparedness, the campus has launched a new emergency communications system. This new system will build on existing methods of information distribution and communication, and will greatly expand UCR's ability to quickly and reliably communicate with students, staff, and faculty in an emergency. UCR Emergency Procedures
These are procedures for specific emergencies such as earthquakes, fires, chemical spills, suspicious packages, etc. Review and print these procedures ahead of time so that they will always be available.
Emergency Management

- Emergency Operations Plan – This is UCR’s overall plan and structure for responding to emergencies on campus.

UCR Safety Partners
UCR buildings, departments, and labs all have designated safety representatives to support emergency preparedness and day-to-day safety activities. Review and confer with your Safety Partners!
Additional Emergency Needs
- Report hazards via the Environmental Health and Safety (EH&S) website or call EH&S at 2-5528.
- Report an injury.
- Review Medical Assistance Information.
- Report an environmental spill or release of gasoline, oil, or other chemicals to the ground, waterways, or air.
- Review Material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS) for information on chemicals and chemical safety.
- For utility failures, call Physical Plant, 2-4214 or 2-4677 after hours, to report trouble 24 hours a day.
- For telephone outages, report trouble at 2-3939 x1 for a campus phone; for a non-campus phone, call 611.
- For computer or network problems contact Computing and Communications at 2-3555 (or your control unit’s IT group).
Other Services
- University of California Police Department, Riverside (UCPD) is responsible for crime prevention, law enforcement, and criminal investigation activities on the UCR campus.
- The Counseling Center at UCR provides help and support with personal and emotional challenges, and is located in the Veitch Student Center, North Wing. A counselor is on call and can be accessed on a drop-in basis Monday through Friday during business hours, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Appointments are also available and can be arranged by calling the Counseling Center at (951) 827-5531.Please see the Counseling Center webpage for after-hours procedures, and click on Emergency Contact Information.
- Environmental Health and Safety provides comprehensive health, safety, environmental and emergency services to assist departments in meeting their needs and obligations.
- Physical Plant is responsible for all utility or maintenance problems (for maintenance/utility problems at on-campus housing, contact your Residence Services Office or the Resident Adviser on duty).
