Background

Nasr has over 25 years of experience in animal science, animal biological safety, industrial hygiene, hazardous materials and waste, employee safety, ergonomics, infection control, and food safety. He has served in positions such as Environmental Safety & Health Officer, Adjunct Professor (for Biology, Health concepts, Community Health Law), Director / Biosafety and Safety Officer, Veterinarian, Occupational Safety and Health Officer, and Biological Animal Technician. Prior to coming to UCR he served in various positions at Los Angeles Trade Technical Community College, Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC), California State University Los Angeles, COH and Beckman Research Institute, US Department of Agriculture, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, University of Southern California (USC), Hacienda Heights Animal Hospital, and Bioscience Laboratory.

Description

Nasr supports the biosafety program to facilitate campus research initiatives while protecting students, faculty, staff and visitors inclduing the environment from the adverse effects of research involving living organisms (e.g., microbes, animals, plants, insects), in a rapidly growing and evolving research and teaching environment. He performs a variety of scientific and technical duties in the campus Laboratory and Research Safety Program, and collaborates with all EH&S staff in the efficient and integrated delivery of services to the campus community. Nasr takes up the effort of all public health inspections and plan reviews for our campus, including food facilities, bathing places, water quality, vector biology and control, solid and liquid waste, emergency preparedness and response including disaster sanitation, and temporary food service locations.
